Key Selling Points:
- Classic's vigor makes this family a great choice for larger container sizes and trees. However it does respond nicely to PGR’s so Classic is also suitable for smaller product forms.
- Classic is a very easy and reliable poinsettia to grow and is adaptable to a wide range of conditions.
- Classic has very uniform timing allowing growers to “bench run” the crop during packing.
- Uniform habit and timing of the colors in the family also allow growers to utilize Classic in combination product forms.
- A large bract with horizontal position gives Classic a “traditional” poinsettia look.
- Perfect timing for peak mid season sales.
- Superior post harvest qualities. Classic holds cyathia very well and is resistant to bract edge burn.
|
Tips for Success:
- Classic is a vigorous cultivar. To reduce the need for PGR’s start Classic one week later than cultivars such as Freedom or Prestige.
- Responsive to PGR’s and a negative DIF for height control.
- If lower lateral shoot buds are present before the pinch a PGR application will keep shoot growth after pinch more even and reduce the incidence of dominant shoots.
- Leaf removal at pinch is beneficial and will maximize light penetration to the new shoots and stem.
|
Special Concerns:
- Not recommended for cold growing.
- Not recommended for high density growing.
