STOCK: For maximum production of good quality cuttings, maintain minimum night temperatures of 66-68°F/19-20°C throughout the production season. Use of night interruption lighting from 10:00 PM to 2:00 AM is recommended through 15 May to prevent flower initiation. A minimum of 10 foot candles/107 lux is required to be effective. Provide a balanced and complete fertilizer regime to assure optimum plant growth. Light intensities of 4,500 to 5,000 foot candles/48,400 to 53,800 lux are ideal provided daytime greenhouse temperatures do not exceed 90 °F/32°C.

V-14 mother plants:

• produce ample cuttings, although not as many as Freedom™ mother plants
• have an optimum cutting maturity characteristic of 6 weeks
• are adaptable to multiple pinch (2-3) or single pinch, fast crop programs

PROPAGATION: Cuttings root easily, but slower than Freedom under normal propagation conditions. Use of a rooting hormone containing 1500 ppm IBA will promote the speed and uniformity of root development. Multiple chemical growth regulator applications are recommended during propagation to prevent stretching of this vigorous cultivar.

FINISHED PLANT CHARACTERISTICS: V-14 is an easy series of poinsettias to grow in warm, sunny climates and is well suited for producing all sizes and forms. The flower initiation date is 25 September, similar to other poinsettia cultivars. Due to its vigor, multiple chemical growth regulator applications are required. V-14 is responsive to A-Rest®, Bonzi®, Cycocel®, Sumagic® or combinations of B-Nine® and Cycocel®. This cultivar is resistant to epinasty.

CULTIVAR NOTES:

• V-14 is susceptible to bract damage from bract edge burn or Botrytis and will benefit from managed programs to prevent these disorders. Maintain even soil moisture levels and avoid high soluble salts throughout production.
• V-14 is subject to fading under bright finishing conditions. Provide shade and cool the greenhouses once bracts have matured.
• Calcium sprays have aided in the prevention of bract edge burn.
• V-14 White is the slowest in the family to mature. Can be grown as a complement to the Success ™ Family for late season sales.
